Its Application

Although the empirical evidence is there to show that interventions such as Gratitude Diaries, Random Acts of Kindness, Strengths-based Coaching etc do have an impact I am much more interested in expanding the perception and reach of Positive Psychology application and connecting the science with existing on-the-ground work that is not so individually focused and operates much more in the public and third sector realm than in the corporate HR domain.

Thinkpublic are committed to using Positive Psychology in their work. They have a database of design and engagement tools that have been mapped against Positive Psychology theory and can be used to determine and measure outcomes and impacts on people working in co-design/ social innovation initiatves.

nef researches policies, measurement tools and every day actions that help us increase well-being. They have developed a Happy Planet Index, a National Account of Well-being, and a set of Five Ways to Well-being, all fundamentally trying to affect what policy-making and the economy would look like if their main aim were to promote well-being.

The Young Foundation has a well-being and resilience programme and is building on practical applications of their research through their Local Well-being work.

The Centre for Confidence and Well-being run events and host a wealth of resources on Positive Psychology. They have done practical projects across education, health and business, for example:  Social Workers, Resilience, Positive Emotions and Optimism

Most of CAPPS linked through work is based within organisations however they also have the CAPP strengths project which is to help underprivileged individuals and groups identify, develop, and use strengths to enhance quality of life and improve their life circumstances.

Mindapples is a social movement to promote individual self-management of mental wellbeing. The original “5-a-day” campaign encouraged people to take care of their physical health through simple daily activities, and Mindapples want to do the same thing for mental health. They aim to create a stigma-free public debate about mental wellbeing, simply by asking everybody the question: “What’s your five-a-day?”

South London and Maudsley Trust and Well London have been running a series of projects addressing well-being, with their DY Happiness and Mental Well-being Impact Assessment of particular relevance to Positive Psychology ( )
